McAfee technical quarry-part 1

Windows Version:

Click Start- Run

Type winver

Press Enter key

McAfee Version:

You can check this by performing the following steps:

Open McAfee Security Center and click on the 'View Details' option at the right bottom corner of the Security Center Window.

NOTE: Please do not click on the Configure beside 'View Details' after clicking on Internet and Network. Click the Configure button that appears in the right pane after clicking on the Internet and Network. Normally it is above View Details.

Using Add/Remove Programs:

Windows XP..

1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel

2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs

3. Select the McAfee Security Center and click Remove.

4. Select the SpamKiller and click Remove again.

Windows Vista:

1. Click Start- Search, type Programs and Features and click Go.

2. Double-click Programs and Features

3. Select McAfee Security Center and click Uninstall.

4. Select the SpamKiller and click Uninstall again.

Slow:

1. Right click on M icon in the sytem Tray area.

NOTE: System Tray is usually located at the right bottom corner of the computer screen where you will find the computer time displayed.

2. Click on Scan.

3. Select Full Scan.

This will scan your computer for any virus/malware infections and will try to remove them.

After this, run the McAfee Quick Clean. McAfee QuickClean software removes applications that are no longer used or needed. It identifies and removes useless entries in files such as the Windows Registry, duplicate files, unused files and other places where programs leave junk.

1. Open McAfee Security Center.

2. On the left pane, click on Maintain Computer.

3. Select any options to start the McAfee Quick Clean.

Backup Registry:

1. Click Start, then Run.

2. Type regedit then click OK. The Registry Editor will appear.

3. Click on File from the menu, then click on Export.

4. The Export Registry File dialog box will then appear. The top of this dialog box contains an option entitled Save In. Make sure 'Desktop' is selected for the Save In option. If it is not, click the pull-down arrow and select Desktop from the list.

5. In the File Name field type RegistryBackup

6. In the Export Range group box make sure 'All' is selected.

7. Click on the Save button.

McAfee Download/ reinstall McAfee:

1. Go to the McAfee homepage.

2. Click My Account.

3. If a Security Warning appears, click Yes.

4. If prompted, enter your registered email address and password. Click Log In.

5. Click the blue down arrow button in the "Update/Download" column.

6. Scroll down the License Agreement page and click on "I Agree".

7. The Installation Wizard appears. Click Continue.

Note: If the wizard does not appear, click "Download" button below Download Manager.

8. Please wait while McAfee products download and install on your computer.

9. After the installation is complete, restart your computer.

Safe Mode:

1. Restart the computer.

2. When the computer is rebooting, press the F8 key repeatedly.

3. You will get a page with options. Use the arrow keys to select " Safe Mode" and press Enter.

4. The computer will now start in Safe Mode.

NOTE: In Safe Mode, the computer starts with minimum drivers and software and is mainly used for troubleshooting purpose in Windows.

Disabling Pop ups (7.2):

1. Under Common Tasks, click Home.

2. On the SecurityCenter Home pane, click Internet & Network.

3. In the Internet & Network information section, click Configure.

4. On the Internet & Network Configuration pane, click Advanced under Web browsing protection.

5. On the Ad, Pop-up, & Web Bug Blocking pane, clear the Block pop-up windows from appearing when you browse the Internet check box.

6. Click OK.

4. Search for the McAfee Privacy Service.

5. Right click on it and select Properties.

6. Beside 'Startup type': Select 'Disabled' and below 'Service status': click on 'Stop'.

7. Click Apply and then click OK.

1. In McAfee Security Center, click on 'Computers and Files' and then click on 'Configure' on the right pane.

2. Click to expand 'Virus protection is enabled'

3. Click on the check box beside 'Off' and click OK.

1. Click Start, Run, type tasks and click OK.

2. Click on Advanced tab and select View Hidden tasks.

3. Right-click McAfee Cleanup in the list of tasks and select Delete.

• Click the "Clear forms" button to clear search history.

• Click OK.

4. Click on " Delete Cookies" , " Delete Temporary Internet Files", and " Clear History"

5. Click Apply and then click OK.

IE 7:

1. Open Internet Explorer

2. Click on Tools.

3. Click on Internet Options.

4. Click on the General tab. Under Browsing History section, click on 'Delete'

5. On the next screen, click on 'Delete All'

6. Click Yes on the next screen.

7. Click OK to close the Internet Options properties Window.

Reset IE 7:

1. Open Internet Explorer

2. Click on Tools.

3. Click on Internet Options.

4. Click on the Advanced tab.

5. Click on the "Reset" button. ( Do not click on "Restore advanced settings" button)

6. Wait until the Internet Explorer resets all the settings.

7. Click OK to close the Internet Options properties Window.

After this, please perform the following steps:

1. Click Start- Run

2. Type %temp%

3. Click OK

4. Select all the files and press the Delete key.

5. Restart the computer.
